Gemstone Meanings

The Beginning of Crystal Healing

Although it is not 'crystal' clear exactly when and where crystal healing began, we do know that the first reference of using them dates back to the Ancient Sumerians, Ancient Egyptians and in Ancient China. Ancient Egyptians and Sumerians would mainly use lapis lazuli, carnelian, malachite, turquoise, emerald and clear quartz for protection, healing, rituals and even make up. They would grind usually malachite or turquoise into powder and use it as eye shadow. In Ancient China, the preferred stone was Jade and was used for medicinal purposes and protection.

Today it is still the most widely used crystal.
They discovered these "powers" as you would say, by the reaction the crystal gave when heated in the sun. They would make these crystals into amulets and jewelry to keep on them at all times.

Today, these methods are still widely used and even preferred over modern medicines. The only difference now is that there are much more crystals to choose from with a lot of different meanings. Below are a few of our favorite stones and meanings. If you'd like to learn more about all the different kinds of crystals, we recommend picking up a copy of

Salt & Pepper Diamond - Salt and pepper diamonds are not a healing crystal however they are still one of our favorite diamonds. Diamonds come with flaws, imperfections or inclusions though most you cannot see with the naked eye. A Salt and Pepper Diamond is one that has a mix of many black and white inclusions or flaws. For the most part, inclusions are blemishes like white spots, black carbon spots, feathers, cracks, clouds or chips. Basically, salt is a term for white inclusions while pepper is for black inclusions, thus Salt and Pepper Diamonds!
